If you have ever been to a billiard hall, then you know how they are set up. Many billiard tables are placed in a large room, so that many people can play. In the past, however, tables for billiards were not set up this way. A wealthy family would have a table in their home, situated in their billiard room. If you own a table yourself, then you know that it is almost necessary to keep up this tradition because of the large space that a billiard table takes up, as well as the room needed all around the table for proper play.

A billiard room has to be large enough so that you can hit the cue ball from any angle and station around the table. This usually means having at least 8 feet of free space all around the table. For a 7 foot table, this means having a room that is at least 15 feet by 19 feet.
